What’s new on HBO and Max in March 2024

In March, HBO and Max embody the tale of two streaming services fused into one. On the HBO side of the equation, the premiere of the new miniseries The Regime brings Kate Winslet back to the premium channel for the first time since her Emmy-winning turn on Mare of Easttown. Additionally, Max is premiering Wonka, the hit musical that was one of Warner Bros.’s lone bright spots in 2023. More surprisingly, Disney is lending out Deadpool and X-Men Origins: Wolverine to Max just a few months before Deadpool and Wolverine hits theaters.

Those are all of the good parts of March’s lineup. Most of the rest comprises low-quality reality shows from the Discovery side of Max. It’s truly amazing how many spinoffs Discovery can squeeze from 90 Day Fiancé, but that doesn’t mean they’re worthwhile. There is an audience for that programming, but it takes up a disproportionately large chunk of Max’s March schedule.

Our complete list of what’s coming to HBO and Max in March 2024 is below. Titles without “HBO” in the listing will only be available on Max. DT’s film and TV show recommendations are in bold.

We also have lists of the best movies on HBO and HBO Max and the best shows on HBO and HBO Max to help you decide what to watch next. If HBO isn’t your only go-to streaming service, we have helpful articles on the best movies on Netflix and the best shows on Netflix, as well as the best movies streaming on Amazon and the best shows streaming on Amazon, plus plenty of other guides for Hulu, Peacock, and Disney+.

The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (March 2024)
Jake Gyllenhaal in the remake of Road House.

Would you believe that it's a coincidence that the two major additions to Amazon Prime Video this week both have the word "house" in their names? It's true, and everyone expected Road House to debut at the top of the charts, since it's Prime Video's most prominent original movie of the month. It was more of a surprise to see the 2012 action thriller Safe House emerge as one of the most popular movies on Prime Video this week. Although considering that Safe House had Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in the leading roles, perhaps we shouldn't be too shocked.

March has been a strong month for Prime Video's original films, including the documentary Frida and the R-rated comedy Ricky Stanicky. Hopefully, April's lineup will be equally impactful. But for now, the following films are our picks for the best movies on Amazon Prime Video right now. Keep checking back every Friday morning as we update the list with the latest options from Prime Video.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (March 2024)
The cast of Irish Wish.

There's still an ongoing question about whether Lindsay Lohan will ever be a box office draw again, but Lohan's comeback has now given her a hit movie on Netflix. Lohan's new rom-com, Irish Wish, has unseated Damsel from the top slot on the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. Damsel remains strong in second place, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie holding in the third slot as the film approaches its fourth month on Netflix. Whatever Netflix is paying to stream that flick, it's not enough.

The other major addition this week is A24's horror comedy, Bodies Bodies Bodies, which originally played in theaters in 2022. Beyond that, Netflix only has a handful of films slated to premiere on the streamer before the end of March. But keep coming back every Friday for our weekly update of the best movies on Netflix right now, and you'll always have something fun to watch.

HBO drops 2 dueling trailers for House of the Dragon season 2
A man preps for battle in House of the Dragon season 2.

Why weren't there any dragons at the beginning of Game of Thrones? It's largely because of the events depicted in the prequel series, House of the Dragon. Despite having control over the seven kingdoms of Westeros, the Targaryen family just couldn't stop themselves from destroying each other. The march to war unfolded over many years in season 1, but now there's only room for one person on the Iron Throne. The just-released first two trailers for House of the Dragon season 2 invite viewers to pick a side between the Black and the Green.
