Former Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle seems to be everywhere you look these days, with roles in the recent 21 Jump Street reboot and its sequel, a co-starring role in Dumb and Dumber To, regular segments on Fox’s NFL Sunday show, and a featured role in the upcoming Dead Rising: Watchtower film based on the hit zombie-survival video game. And now he’s headed to Fox with a new television series, too.

Deadline reports that the still-untitled series will be a single-camera comedy based on the Austrian series Braunschlag, which follows the mayor of a small town struggling to keep up with the rapidly evolving world around it. Riggle is attached to play the town’s mayor.

The American version of the series will be developed by The Office and American Dad writer Steve Hely, with Hely and Riggle serving as executive producers.

Much like The Office and other recent series adapted from programs that found success elsewhere, the original Braunschlag series had a critically praised, eight-episode run in 2012 and garnered impressively high ratings.

Transformers One trailer turns an origin story into a buddy comedy
The main heroes in Transformers One.

The Transformers animated series from 1984 first established an origin story for Optimus Prime and Megatron on their home world of Cybertron. But as originally envisioned, Megatron, the future leader of the evil Decepticons, was only a false friend to Orion Pax, who would go on to become the Autobots' leader, Optimus Prime. Subsequent incarnations in other media have reconfigured that relationship, but the upcoming animated movie, Transformers One, is the first to take the future rivals and pair them up in a buddy action comedy.

The 31 best Netflix drama shows right now (April 2024)
The cast of Black Sails.

It's not often that Netflix gets to add a pirate drama to its lineup of shows, simply because there aren't many live-action pirate series to begin with. But since Starz already spent the money to produce Black Sails a decade ago, Netflix gets to reap the benefits by adding it. Similarly, BBC America's spy thriller Killing Eve is also joining Netflix this month. Both shows had multiseason runs, which make them perfect for bingeing.

Our third addition to the lineup in April is One Day, a romantic drama that chronicles a relationship through its beginning and all the way to the end. One Day also has a lot of episodes compared to other Netflix originals, and you'll want to keep some tissues handy because it's a tearjerker. Keep reading for these and more of the best dramas on Netflix right now.

After two of their team members are savagely murdered, Joey (Scream 6's Melissa Barrera), Frank (Dan Stevens), Sammy (Kathryn Newton), and Peter (Kevin Durand) realize that Abigail (Alisha Weir), the little girl they were hired to kidnap, isn't an innocent ballerina but a centuries-old vampire. In case that wasn't bad enough, Abigail reveals that she specifically chose all of them as her latest targets, hired them under false pretenses, and lured them to an old family estate so that she could kill them for their past crimes against her father's criminal empire.
