Peter Parker reveals the title of Marvel’s Spider-Man solo movie

We’ve known for a while now that Sony Pictures’ upcoming deal with Marvel Studios would bring Spider-Man into Marvel’s cinematic universe, beginning with actor Tom Holland’s debut as the new face of web-slinging hero Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. What we didn’t know, however, was very much about the upcoming Spider-Man solo film hitting theaters in 2017.

Some of that mystery was cleared up this week with the announcement of the film’s title during the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas — an announcement made by Holland himself.

As confirmed by Peter Parker himself, the official title of the film will be Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Holland made the announcement at CinemaCon after attending the Hollywood premiere of Captain America: Civil War earlier that day, and spoke during Sony’s presentation at the movie festival, where the official logo for the film was also revealed.

“It really is a homecoming because, throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world,” Holland told the crowd (as reported by ComingSoon.net).

Spider-Man fans will also find the title appropriate, given that the film brings the character back to the Marvel universe after decades at Sony where he was isolated from the big-screen versions of many of the heroes and villains he interacted with in the comics world.

Sony’s presentation reportedly ended with a clip from Civil War featuring Holland, his Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Marisa Tomei, and Marvel franchise star Robert Downey, Jr. In the scene, Peter Parker (Holland) returns home to discover Tony Stark (Downey) talking with Aunt May (Tomei) about Peter applying for a special program at Stark Industries. Stark gives Peter a knowing wink, acknowledging that he’s well aware of the latter’s wall-crawling, web-slinging alter ego.

Along with Holland and Tomei, Spider-Man: Homecoming will also feature pop star Zendaya as a character named Michelle. The film is directed by Cop Car filmmaker Jon Watts from a script penned by Vacation screenwriters and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will debut in standard and IMAX theaters July 7, 2017.

I have watched plenty of stuff on streaming platforms where the translated audio doesn't feel natural on the faces of the actors appearing on the screen. It just looks odd and takes away the fun from watching dubbed films and TV shows. I would prefer to watch content with the original audio and see the translated captions, rather than deal with the asynchrony between the audio and facial expressions. Amazon finally has a solution.

The company is launching a new lip-sync technology on Prime Video that will use AI and VFX to sync the lip movement of actors so that they appear to naturally speak the dialog, even if it has been translated and dubbed from another language. The technology is making its debut with the first and second seasons of Maxton Hall, and will also be used when the third season premieres on the platform.
