The numbers added up to a big weekend for The Accountant, director Gavin O’Connor’s action thriller featuring Ben Affleck as a math savant who finds himself pursued by killers when one of his clients targets him for assassination.

Although the film earned mediocre reviews from professional critics, general audiences were far kinder to O’Connor’s film and gave it rave reviews to go along with positive buzz that could help it stick around in theaters. Box-office pundits didn’t predict anything over $18 million for the film, so its $24.7 million premiere is a welcome surprise for studio Warner Bros. Pictures and the film’s creative team.

The only other new release to rank in the weekend’s domestic top ten was Kevin Hart’s stand-up comedy film What Now? The $11.9 million it earned was good for second place and narrowly edged out the thriller The Girl on the Train in its second week. The film’s debut also set a new opening-weekend record for stand-up comedy movies, passing 2000’s The Original Kings of Comedy and its $11 million debut, as well as Hart’s own 2013 film Let Me Explain, which had a $10 million opening weekend.

The rest of the weekend’s top ten films in U.S. theaters were all returning films, but there was some big news in the international box office, too.

Ron Howard’s Inferno — the third film based on Dan Brown’s series of novels that began with The Da Vinci Code — raked in more than $50 million overseas ahead of its domestic debut. The film won’t arrive in U.S. theaters for another two weeks, but it’s already well on its way to a good run with its international box-office earnings.

Back in the U.S., however, Open Road Films’ Max Steel movie, based on the popular Mattel toy line, didn’t fare so well with a meager $2.1 million opening weekend. The sci-fi adventure performed dismally in theaters and didn’t earn a positive response from critics or audiences, so its time on the big screen is likely to be limited.

Next week, Tom Cruise returns for more action as the title character in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the sequel to the 2012 film Jack Reacher, which cast him as the former Military Police Corps officer featured in Lee Child’s series of popular novels. Also arriving in theaters is the comedy Keeping Up With the Joneses, which casts Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher as a suburban couple who believe  their new, too-perfect neighbors played by Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm have some sinister secrets.

Michael Caine, Sandra Bullock, and Benjamin Bratt in Miss Congeniality.

At the end of December, Netflix cut a number of comedies from the site due to expiring agreements. January was a little light on fresh comedies to watch, but February is a different story. There are more options now for comedy fans that aren't limited to the Netflix originals.
This month's best new additions to the comedy lineup include Sandra Bullock's Miss Congeniality, a film celebrating its 25th anniversary later this year. An even older film on the list is Ivan Reitman's Twins, which features the unlikely pairing of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. Additionally, Jim Carrey is at the peak of his comedic prowess in Bruce Almighty.
Those are just a few of the films you can find below in the best comedies on Netflix right now. And now that the films from other studios are returning to the streamer, 2025 should be a lot funnier.

Purdue vs. Michigan State: How to watch, results, and highlights
Michigan State basketball court from an aerial view.

Two of the Big Ten's best teams face off on Tuesday night. Braden Smith and the No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers (19-7) take on Jaden Akins and the No. 14 Michigan State on Tuesday night. After hot starts, both teams have dropped recent games. Purdue enters Tuesday's game on a two-game losing streak, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of Wisconsin. Michigan State has lost three of their last five but picked up a crucial victory over Illinois this past Saturday.
After the departure of Zach Edey, Purdue had major questions in their frontcourt. Trey Kaufman-Renn has been better than advertised, as the junior forward leads the Boilermakers in points (19.4) and rebounds (6.3). Plus, Smith's veteran presence in the backcourt will pay dividends in March. It's a true team effort for Tom Izzo's Spartans, with five scorers between eight and 14 points per game. The x-factor is freshman Jase Richardson, who has scored over 10 points in three straight games, including a 29-point outburst in the win over Oregon.
With the regular season winding down, this game will go a long way when determining seeding for the Big Ten Tournament. Find out how to watch the game below, including the start time, channel, and streaming information. Read our NCAA men's basketball March to the Madness guide for more information.

If you have to watch one Hulu movie in February 2025, stream this one
Meg Ryan sits at a computer in You've Got Mail.

Unless you grew up during the internet's stone age, then you may have never heard the "You've got mail" voice that used to play when AOL users got an email. In its heyday, AOL was omnipresent on the web, and its catchphrase was the inspiration for the 1998 romantic comedy You've Got Mail, which is our pick for the one Hulu movie that you need to watch in February.

Valentine's Day is in the rear-view mirror, but a good rom-com is always seasonal. The late Nora Ephron -- who was one of the best female directors -- co-wrote You've Got Mail with her sister, Delia Ephron, while taking inspiration from the 1940 romance flick, The Shop Around the Corner.
