No power? The Furrion eRove battery-powered cooler chills for five days

Add as a preferred source on Google

Camping is fun, but by the third day you’ve depleted anything you kept in a cooler and have turned to granola and lukewarm water bottles for sustenance. It’s just not possible to keep a traditional cooler at a low enough temperature for more than a day or two at a time. That’s the problem the Furrion eRove sets out to solve.

This is a portable, battery-powered cooler that eliminates the need for ice and keeps things cool for up to five days on a single charge. It can be disconnected and taken anywhere thanks to its knobby, off-road tires.

The Furrion eRove uses a portable, swappable battery to power itself. If you have more than one battery, just swap one out for the next at to keep things cooler for even longer. It keeps things cold thanks to specialized foam insulation and cooling elements that can drop the temperature of anything inside the Furrion eRove to -8 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s right — it can freeze food as well as refrigerate it. You don’t need ice, but if you decide to complement the cooling, the Furrion can keep its interior cold for up to 10 days without using the battery. Combine the battery and ice together and you get a solid two weeks of safe food storage.

The Furrion eRove can be charged through both AC and DC power, which means you can top off its charge from the car if needed. The freezer can run for 1 to 2 days even without a battery.

You can also connect a solar charger to the Furrion eRove for essentially unlimited cooling capabilities. If you intend to camp for a long period of time, this can be a great solution for cold beverages and for keeping perishable foods safe.

And yes, you can even charge your devices off of the Furrion eRove’s USB ports. It sports two USB 2.0 ports and one USB Fast Charge port, as well as a wireless charging pad. That means your phone can join you in the wilderness. You know, for those times when a little Enya can enhance the view.

The Furrion eRove is available through crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. The Furrion eRove is available for pre-order today, along with all of its accessories, starting at $800. However, the Indiegogo goal has not yet been met and the device is still in the production phase. As always, be wary when contributing to crowdfunded devices.
