At some point in your life, your Facebook feed will go through a shocking transformation. It will seem that everyone’s getting married and having babies. You’ll know the moment your friends turn into parents, thanks to the endless line of baby pictures in your newsfeed each day. Now, Facebook will finally help new parents commemorate their baby’s arrival into the world and onto Facebook with Scrapbook.
The new feature helps parents put all those adorable pictures of tiny baby toes, first smiles, and first strides into one place. Scrapbook makes it easier for parents to share baby photos with each other and their friends, even those who are not mutual friends of both parents.
Parents can co-own the scrapbook, and whenever either parent wants to add photos to the scrapbook, they can just tag the picture with their chosen tag. The tag can be the baby’s name, initials, or what have you. However, only two people can add to the album, which could annoy some grandmas and prove difficult for mixed families.
Dan Barak, the Product Manager of Scrapbook and a proud new dad, says that Scrapbook was born out of necessity. He found that all his photos of his new baby were scattered all over different albums, and he wanted a way to put them all together. After some research, he concluded that many parents ran into the same problem.
“Our team ran a small survey for parents who share pictures of their children on Facebook and found that 65 percent of them tag their partner in these photos to share them with their partner’s friends,” he wrote in a blog post, announcing the feature. “These same parents also told us they want to collect photos of their little ones in a place that will grow with them over the years.”
Starting a scrapbook for your child is pretty easy, and Facebook’s broken it down into the following steps:
- Go to your profile, click on About and then, Family and Relationships
- Click Get Started on the invite to Scrapbook
- If you already have a child on your profile, can click Add Scrapbook next to your kid’s name
The feature will start rolling out on March 31 in the U.S. on Facebook’s website, as well as its iPhone and Android apps. No word yet on international availability.
