Incipio’s ClamCase keyboard cases transform your iPad into a MacBook

Following its acquisition of ClamCase last summer, Incipio has just unveiled a new range of keyboard cases designed especially for iPads at CES in Vegas. There are seven new ClamCase keyboard cases for the iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad Mini 4. Crafted from aluminum, with a polycarbonate shell, each one features the patented 360-degree smart hinge with soft-touch finish, which allows users to transform their iPads into mini laptops or fold the keyboard back to find the perfect angle for viewing.

First up is the ClamCase Pro for the iPad Mini 4, which includes a full QWERTY keyboard, a rechargeable battery that lasts for months between charges, and real protection from dings and drops. It will be available in the next couple of months and will cost $130.

Coming in the summer, we have the ClamCase + for the iPad Pro ($170) and iPad Air 2 ($150) which offers a full QWERTY backlit keyboard with adjustable brightness. It supports the sleep/wake function, automatically turning on when you open the case and turning off when you close it. There’s a handy integrated slot for storing the Apple Pencil, and the case comes in gray, gold or silver.

Incipio also announced the ClamCase + Power for the iPad Air 2. It has the same 360-degree hinge and adjustable backlit QWERTY keyboard, but it also packs an extra 6,000mAh backup battery and a 2.1A USB port, so that you can use it to charge your iPhone, or another smartphone or tablet, while you’re on the go. It will cost $200 when it goes on sale this summer.

Finally, there’s the ClamCase Prompt for the iPad Air 2. It sports a small OLED display on the top of the case which pairs wirelessly with your smartphone. The idea is that notifications will come in and be silently displayed on the case, so you won’t have to check your phone during meetings. It also has the full QWERTY backlit keyboard with adjustable brightness, supports the automatic sleep/wake function, and sports that handy 360 degree hinge. It will be available for $200 this summer and comes in silver or white.

Your Android phone could become a powerful tool for detecting cataracts

Researchers found that ophthalmologists reviewing smartphone eye images remotely closely matched in-person referral decisions, opening the door to easier screening in underserved communities.

Getting your eyes checked is fairly straightforward when an ophthalmologist is nearby. For millions of people living in rural communities, however, simply reaching one can be the biggest obstacle. Researchers in India think a smartphone could help close that gap. A new study found that eye specialists examining smartphone images remotely made cataract referral decisions that closely matched those of doctors examining the same patients in person.

The setup is surprisingly simple. Researchers developed a portable attachment that clips onto an Android phone and uses a magnifying lens and two small LEDs to capture consistent images of the front of a patient's eye. A silicone eyepiece blocks outside light and keeps the camera at the correct distance. Better still, the entire setup, including the phone, costs less than £150 (around $200). It also works with a telemedicine app designed for places with limited internet connectivity.

Samsung went through the entire journey with foldable smartphones. It started with bulky hinges, terrible cover displays, and heavy bodies. After a few generations, the Galaxy Z Folds became better with each passing year. Xiaomi, Honor, Motorola, Oppo, Huawei, and others pushed the category thinner and lighter along the way.

So when Apple finally unveiled the iPhone Duo, I expected its first foldable to look distinctly Apple. The company has come up with some intuitive uses in iOS 27, and it also has several little software ideas I haven't seen implemented quite the same way elsewhere.

Samsung may give the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra brighter, longer-lasting OLED displays

For the past few generations, Samsung’s flagship Ultra phone has felt increasingly predictable. The only upgrade that really grabbed my attention on the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year was its Privacy Display. The Galaxy S27 generation looks different, though, as Samsung appears to be putting some genuine effort into improving its flagship phones.

We have already seen a redesign in leaked renders, heard rumors of a larger battery, and read reports of changes to the zoom camera. Now, according to ETNews, Samsung plans to equip both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra with Samsung Display’s latest M16 OLED material set. These would be the first Samsung smartphones to use M16.
