OnePlus is clearly trying to make the Nord 6 feel less like a routine refresh and more like the mid-range phone that can survive anything. In its latest press release, the company showcased the device as a performance-focused device for young professionals, combining productivity tools and a much tougher build than you’d usually expect in this segment.

What’s the big upgrade this time around?

The company’s latest Nord phone is built with an IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K rating for protection against the elements. This basically means it’s dustproof, while also being protected against water immersion, high-pressure and high-temperature water jets as well. Adding to the durability pitch is the Crystal Guard Glass, which the company says offers drop and scratch resistance on par with flagship-grade Gorilla Glass Victus+.

For comparison, the premium top flagships like the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra top out only with an IP68 rating.

A washing machine survivor isn’t the usual phone flex

The real headline is that OnePlus claims the phone was tested in a detergent-filled hot water and under repeated drop tests in line with MIL-STD-810H military-grade standards. So yes, the Nord 6 is being sold as a phone tough enough to survive the kind of accident most people would immediately assume is game over.

Even the camera hardware was teased

Durability was just one half of the teaser. OnePlus also confirmed that the Nord 6 will offer capable camera hardware with a 50MP Sony main camera with a dual-axis OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens. Meanwhile, the front houses a 32MP shooter for selfies and video calls that supports a multi-focusing hardware sensor to improve sharpness, especially in low light. OnePlus’ new mid-range phone is also bringing 4K60fps video recording, including a 4K Motion Photo Clipper that lets users pull full resolution stills from short video clips.

AI is a part of the conversation on the Nord 6. OnePlus is bringing several AI-powered tools, including the OnePlus Mind Space, Google Gemini integration, AI Portrait Glow, AI Eraser, AI unblur, AI Perfect Shot, real-time translation, AI Ghostwriter, and AI scan.

The press release mentions all of the other key specs that were revealed previously like Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, 165 FPS gaming, chip-accelerated Wi-Fi, and what OnePlus calls the segment’s largest 9000mAh battery. Full specs and availability will be revealed on April 7.

If you've ever been on vacation and chose to record video instead of taking photos only to avoid missing the fun moments, thinking you’d pause and take screenshots later, you might have ended up questioning your decision later.

You see, the process involves multiple steps, starting from hunting for the right frame, pausing, and taking a screenshot. If it doesn’t look good, you go back to the video, pause somewhere else, and try taking another screenshot. You see where I’m going with this?
