There has been a big boom in fitness and health tracking in the last few years, and while many folks tend to think of that in terms of smartwatches, there is a sizeable market of fitness tracking rings like the Oura. They’re a great alternative to folks who don’t want to wear a watch due to comfort or style choices, so going for something like the Oura Ring 3 is a great idea. Luckily, because of the release of the new Oura Ring 4, the Gen 3 has gone on sale at Best Buy, with the Heritage model going for $349 instead of $399 and the Horizon model going for $449 instead of $499.

Why you should buy the Oura Ring 3

While the Oura Ring 3 might be a little bit older in generation, it’s still pretty excellent and maybe even has some positives over the newer Gen 4 ring. In fact, when our senior mobile reviewer Andy Boxall got his hands on it, he was conflicted about the change due to the new design. If you’re considering going to the newer Gen 4 rings from the older Ring 3, then you may want to check out our interview with Jason Russell, vice president of consumer software product at Oura, for some more information about the new designs and the decisions behind them.

For those who are coming fresh into the concept of smart rings, then the Oura Ring 3 has a lot to offer but is primarily about tracking your sleep, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, and stats like that. That means you won’t get a vibration when you get a notification from your phone, and it is, therefore, more about tracking your health and giving you data points. That means it’s also really great for tracking your sleep, and that is a large part of what the Oura Ring 3 offers, with an app that presents all the information very clearly while providing some analysis that doesn’t dip into actual medical advice.

Overall, the Ring 3 is a great choice if you want to save on the more expensive Ring 4 while still having a solid experience, especially since you get $50 off either model from Best Buy. Of course, if a smart ring doesn’t really sound like something you’d be interested in, check out these smartwatch deals instead.
