Samsung Galaxy S26 could be thicker, but you won’t regret the purpose behind it

A subtle design tweak might give Samsung’s next compact flagship the endurance and efficiency that buyers deserve for the price point.

What’s happened? It looks like Samsung is making some design changes to the vanilla Galaxy S26. According to a new report, the handset could be slightly thicker than previously expected, and for good reason.

  • Citing updated CAD dimensions, Android Headlines reports that the Galaxy S26 will measure 149.5 x 71.6 x 7.24 mm.
  • Including the camera bump, the phone’s thickness will increase to 10.44 mm (up from 10.23 mm).
  • Most recently, renowned tipster @UniverseIce (via X) claimed that the phone will feature a 6.9 mm side profile.

Why is this important? The change from 6.96 mm to 7.24 mm implies that the frame’s thickness increases by 0.28 mm (or 0.21 mm if we include the camera bump).

  • For context, the Galaxy S25 currently features a 7.2 mm frame. As a result, the Galaxy S26 could be just slightly thicker than its predecessor.
  • This last-minute dimension adjustment might allow Samsung to equip the Galaxy S26 with either the same 4,000 mAh battery as the S25 or a slightly larger one.
  • More internal space could also improve the phone’s internal structure — particularly component spacing and placement — leading to better thermal efficiency.

Why should I care? Since these CAD-based details surfaced in mid-November, Samsung will likely stick with them.

  • If you’re planning to upgrade to Samsung’s compact flagship, this is good news: the phone could offer better battery life and improved heat dissipation compared to earlier expectations.
  • If the news about the Galaxy S26’s getting even thinner excited you, consider the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is often available at significant discounts.

OK, what’s next? This is the second leak about the Galaxy S26’s dimensions in the past week, suggesting that Samsung is getting closer to finalizing the design.

  • We can expect more sources to publish final renders and dimensions for the Galaxy S26 and other models in the series in the coming days.
  • Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S26 series in late January, earlier than previously anticipated, though the handsets might launch at a slightly higher price than before.

Galaxy Z Fold 8: Everything we know about Samsung’s wider and shorter foldable
Samsung's widest Fold yet could finally make book-style foldables feel natural.
Rear camera for selfie on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

For most of its existence, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold has solved one problem while creating another. The book-style foldable has let buyers carry a tablet-sized screen in their pocket without actually carrying a tablet. But, through no fault of its own, that came at the cost of a cover screen so tall and narrow that using it one-handed felt unnatural and uncomfortable.

Further, viewing content on the inner screen came with giant black bars at the top and the bottom. Samsung is addressing that with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which could feature an entirely new form factor. Think shorter, wider, passport-shaped, and a cover screen you can actually type on without contorting your fingers.
