Samsung Galaxy S26 could finally bring an end to a nagging charging problem

A new leak hints Samsung is finally catching up to Apple and Google with true magnetic wireless charging on the Galaxy S26.

What’s happened? A tipster has shared a picture of the vanilla Galaxy S26, and from what it looks like, the phone could finally get native Qi2 wireless charging support after all.

  • Renowned tipster @UniverseIce has shared a diagram of the purported Galaxy S26’s back panel.
  • The tipster claims that the phone will carry a side profile of 6.9mm (0.3mm thinner than the Galaxy S25).
  • However, the diagram depicts a ring-shaped built-in magnetic profile on the handset, which could unlock Qi2 wireless charging.

Why is this important? For those catching up, all the phones in the Galaxy S25 lineup are “Qi2-ready.” While they can be wirelessly charged at up to 15W, they lack the built-in magnets and require a magnetic charging case to unlock that functionality.

  • Apple first introduced MagSafe wireless magnetic charging in 2020, and also rolled out upgrades to the standard (in terms of charging speed) in recent years.
  • Most recently, Google’s Pixel 10 series also debuted with support for Pixelsnap charging, leaving behind the Samsung Galaxy S series.
  • While some Chinese manufacturers also include wireless magnetic charging on their phones, they use proprietary technology rather than Qi2, a universal charging standard.

Why should I care? If you’re a fan of magnetic wireless charging, the fact that the Galaxy S25 series didn’t fully support it without spending additional money on a special charging case could have been disappointing.

  • However, the Galaxy S26 series could solve that problem for you, especially if you’re planning to transition from an iPhone and already have several Qi2-compatible wireless charging accessories, as all of them should work with Samsung’s upcoming flagship series.

OK, what’s next? After rumors of a delay to the Galaxy S26 series surfaced last week, a new report suggests the Korean giant could stick to its late-January launch schedule.
