What’s happened? A Korean publication has leaked the purported launch date of Samsung’s first tri-folding smartphone, but it also mentions the handset’s regional availability.

  • According to a Chosun report, Samsung has decided to launch the Galaxy Z TriFold (a tentative name) on December 5, 2025.
  • Per the translated version, the company will reveal the smartphone at a public launch event, and sales will commence immediately after that.
  • Corroborating previous reports, the latest one also mentions how the smartphone could be limited to Korea and other Asian countries at launch.
  • The foldable is said to feature a 6.5-inch cover screen and a 10-inch inner screen, a 4.2mm side prhofile (when folded), and measures around 14mm when unfolded.
  • Furthermore, it could also feature a 5,600 mAh battery, the largest on a Samsung foldable to date.

Why is this important? Similar to ultra-thin smartphones, tri-folding smartphones are a relatively new and highly sought-after category in the industry. While Samsung doesn’t have the first-mover advantage (shoutout to the Huawei Mate XT), the company surely wants to highlight the innovation and solidify its leadership.

  • For its first tri-folding smartphone, the Korean tech giant has a rather modest shipment target.
  • Initially, Samsung is looking to ship between 20,000 and 30,000 units of its Galaxy Z TriFold, with a focus on premium market positioning.
  • To that end, the price of the tri-folding phone could be around 4.4 million Korean won, which converts to about $3000, similar to that of the Mate XT.

Why should I care? As and when the company releases the Galaxy Z TriFold in more regions, including the United States, it could become the most expensive foldable smartphone on the market, beating the familiar names, including the popular foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

  • If the smartphone gets a strong response in launch markets, Samsung could rapidly expand its availability to other regions, including the United States, but it might take a few months before that happens.
  • If you’re waiting to get your hands on the Galaxy Z TriFold, do so with a deep pocket.

OK, what’s next? Most recently, the company launched its first mixed-reality headset, the Galaxy XR, in the United States, demonstrating its confidence in the market.

  • While the December launch date remains a rumor at the moment, you should wait and see if other reliable sources are corroborating it before making up your mind.
  • Meanwhile, Apple is also gearing up to release its first foldable in 2026, at the purported September launch event, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models.

Apple’s foldable iPhone hype may run straight into a launch shortage

Apple’s first foldable iPhone may have a repeat of the iPhone X moment this fall. A new report from industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the rumored iPhone Ultra (foldable iPhone) could be announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, but preorders and sales may arrive later because early production is expected to be extremely limited.

Kuo says Apple may build around 7 million to 8 million foldable iPhones in the second half of 2026. The problem is timing. Only 0.5 million to 1 million units are expected to be ready in the third quarter, which is when Apple usually prepares for its September iPhone launch. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, by comparison, are expected to have around 20 million to 22 million units ready in the same period.

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones this fall, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumored foldable iPhone Ultra. The iPhone 18 Pro Max was recently tipped to get a major battery boost, with one leak claiming a 5,235mAh battery for the physical SIM model and a 5,425mAh battery for the eSIM-only version.

Now, China’s 3C certification database (via Digital Chat Station) appears to show the actual battery capacities for both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Interestingly, the Pro Max numbers listed there are even larger than the earlier leak suggested.
