What happened? After introducing an AI-powered tool in Gmail to streamline meeting scheduling yesterday, Google is now enhancing reminder management by syncing Keep reminders with Tasks.

  • With this change, reminders saved in Google Keep will automatically appear in Google Tasks, giving users a unified to-do list.
  • The integration will also allow users to access reminders in other Google apps, including Calendar and Gemini.
  • Google first announced this feature in April last year, and it is finally rolling out to both Google Workspace and personal account users.

Why is this important? The Google Keep and Tasks integration will make managing reminders simpler across Google apps.

  • Users will no longer have to manually duplicate reminders between Keep and Tasks.
  • Viewing all reminders in one place will offer a better organization and planning experience.
  • The Gemini integration will allow users to quickly pull up information about upcoming reminders using the Tasks extension.

Why should I care? If you use Google Tasks but rely on Google Keep for reminders, this integration will allow you to manage tasks and reminders in one place.

  • It will eliminate the need to switch apps to view upcoming reminders.
  • You will also be able to track upcoming reminders in Google Calendar or inquire about them using Gemini.

What’s next? A support page outlining this integration also highlights additional changes that will affect how Google Keep handles reminders going forward.

  • Google Keep will no longer send notifications for reminders. Users will have to rely on Google Tasks or Google Calendar for push notifications.
  • Google Keep is also dropping support for location-based reminders. Location data in existing Keep reminders will be added to the description in Tasks.
  • If a Keep reminder is too long, its title will be shortened when it migrates to Tasks.
