Canon’s refreshed Pixma photo inkjets use new inks, print directly from Instagram

Canon is refreshing its Pixma MG-series photo/home inkjet printers with seven new models. These all-in-one (multifunction or MFP) devices have Wi-Fi built-in for wireless printing, and can handle both photo and document print jobs. For prints, these printers use new inks that Canon says offer deeper blacks and more vivid reds. Design wise, the printers retain a similar look and feel to previous models.

Besides wireless printing via a Wi-Fi network, the MFPs let you print remotely via the Pixma Cloud Link service, as well as directly from smartphones and tablets via Canon’s new Print Inkjet/Selphy app. One of the app’s new features include direct printing from an Instagram feed. The printers also support document printing from SlideShare and document scanning into Microsoft OneNote, as well as printing from and scanning images to social networks and cloud-based services, such as Facebook, Dropbox, Twitter, Flickr, Google Drive, and more. The flagship model, the MG7720, includes Pixma Touch & Print for direct printing from select Android devices, without needing to use the Canon app; for iOS devices, the printers support Apple’s AirPrint.

The MFPs’ drivers are also 30-percent faster to install, offer auto two-sided printing, and support Canon’s Full HD Movie Print for printing photos off videos taken with select Canon cameras and camcorders.
