After pitting these two against each other and weighing their features against their pricetags, we can only recommend one. Despite the S5 being Acer’s flagship ultrabook ever since CES 2012, it is outshined by the M5 in a number of different ways. First and foremost, the Aspire M5 is only $780, whereas the S5 will run you nearly double that amount at $1400. For such a high cost, you’ll still get a range of powerful features, like a 3rd-gen Intel Core i7 processor and two solid state drives. With the M5 however, you’ll get a Nvidia GT640M LE Discrete graphics processor, as well as a Core i5 processor, which performed only 15% slower than the i7 in our benchmark tests. And to top it all off, the M5 boasts double the battery life of the S5. In the end, it’s clear that you can get a lot more bang for your buck with the Aspire M5. The S5 is far too expensive for what it offers, and pales in comparison to other ultrabooks in the same price range.
