E3 2012: Watch Dogs extended gameplay trailer

With a proverbial truckload of games announced at E3 being sequels, prequels, or – more than likely – planned “threequels,” a lot of credit has to be given to Ubisoft for breaking from the pack and delivering a truly new and unique intellectual property.

Dubbed Watch Dogs, this brand-new outing is being developed and led by Ubisoft Montreal and sporting team members from other blockbuster franchises including Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry.

Set in the near future, the game takes place in an open-world where you assume the role of anti-hero Aiden Pierce, as he utilizes his elite hacking skills to tap into virtually any system imaginable.

Watch Dogs goes beyond the limits of today’s open-world games by giving players the ability to control an entire city,” said creative director Jonathan Morin in the announcement. “In Watch Dogs, anything connected to the city’s Central Operating System becomes a weapon. By pushing the boundaries, we can provide players with action and access to information on a scale that’s never been seen in a video game before.”

Ubisoft has yet to confirm when or for what systems Watch Dogs is due out on, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more. For now, check out the extended gameplay trailer and begin the excruciating countdown to the game’s inevitable release.
