The sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has had a pretty rapid growth in popular over the last decade or so. At this point it has eclipsed boxing as the dominant combat sport. Fun fact: MMA is banned in the state of New York.
The documentary Fightville from Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker (Gunner Palace) follows a group of young fighters in Southern Louisiana as they strive for personal and professional greatness. The goal is to get the opportunity to make into the sport’s upper echelons of UFC. One of the fighters is Dustin Poirier who is now a known and popular fighter.
Fightville is described by the filmmakers as “a microcosm of life, a physical manifestation of the American Dream and the relentless dedication required of all who hope to attain it.”
At the moment the film is slated for a limited release on April 20.
