Gotham City Imposters, the upcoming online multiplayer first-person shooter inspired by the Batman franchise from Monolith Productions, is one of the most bizarre games set for release next year. With an art style and over-the-top presentation that easily finds its roots in Valve’s Team Fortress 2, Imposters pits teams of wannabe Batmen against teams of wannabe Jokers in a festival of bullet-driven chaos that the real Batman would probably want to step in and put a stop to.
There’s a new trailer online today that introduces the game’s colorful cast of characters. They’re all clearly in need of some psychiatric treatment, but since it’s more fun to pretend you’re a vigilante or hardened criminal and shoot guns, they’ve taken to the streets to do just that.
It’s increasingly difficult to compete as an online-focused multiplayer shooter in this crowded market, but Imposters has more than enough of a unique identity to turn some heads. The basic idea of “Batman vs. Joker FPS” sounds like something cooked up in a publisher’s board room, but that’s also what makes this game — which, it should be mentioned, has been praised in previews for its fun gameplay — so hilariously demented.
So hit play and meets the Bats and Jokerz teams, highlighted by social miscreants like Megan, the sadistic telemarketer, and Joe, the passive aggressive plumber. Also, there are trampolines. No one can complain about trampolines.
