House of Pleasures is the fifth film from director Bertrand Bonello and depicts the final days of a turn-of-the-century brothel in Paris, France. At this time in history much of the Parisian sex trade is confined to higher-end brothels run by elegant madams and used by clientele who are vetted before being allowed in.
The specific house that’s being showcased is L’Apollonide. Bonello tracks the lives of Madam (Noemie Lvovsky) and a dozen girls who work under her; including, Madeline (Alive Barnole) who is disfigured by a client, Clotilde (Celine Sallette), the vet who longs to be respectable woman, and Pauline (Iliana Zabeth), the rookie who quickly learns that the business is not the romantic world she thought.
Look for House of Pleasures in limited release on November 25.
