HP unveiled three new laptop lines the other day, but the Folio 13, its first Ultrabook, might be our favorite of the bunch. HP isn’t going for many records. This isn’t the thinnest or lightest Ultrabook we’ve seen at 18mm thick and 3.3 pounds, but it does seem to provide the right mix of useful features. HP believes that offering a few more ports, a full SSD drive, and superior battery life for $900 will be worth it to consumers. We’re inclined to agree.
The Folio 13 gets an estimated 9 hours of battery life (7-8 in reality), which is more than any other Ultrabook we’ve seen outside of the MacBook Air. Unlike some Ultrabooks, the Folio is also sturdy and has a solid feel to it, despite its thin profile. Finally, ports are abound. The unit has an SD card reader, ethernet port, HDMI port, and two USB ports. The screen is a bit larger than some at 13.3 inches, but it’s bright. Overall, we’re very impressed with HP’s entry into the Ultrabook race and think it might be the best one yet.
The HP Folio 13 will be available Dec. 7.
