We took a visit to Kalkhoff eBikes in Portland, Oregon, to find out more about electric bicycles. They help commuters get around on two wheels without arriving at destinations in head-to-toe sweat-soaked spandex.
Todd Peres, retail manager, explains what advantages that the electric bike has over normal bikes or gas-powered scooter. He also explains how the electric assist mechanism works, and the laws that make these different from the larger road-going cousins.
We also got a look at the Kalkhoff Tasman. The Tasman is an urban cruiser than gets up to 50 miles of assisted pedaling and comes stacked with features. You get a cargo rack, fenders, front suspension, and even hydraulic brakes from the same company that outfits Ducatis.
