Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 may be stealing the FPS spotlight at the moment, but Killzone: Shadow Fall is truly the only FPS launch title built from the ground up specifically for Sony’s next-gen console. The PS4 exclusive takes place three decades after the events in Killzone 3. The war between the Interstellar Strategic Alliance (ISA) and the Helghast is long over, but tensions on the world of Vekta threaten to start a civil war. The game places the player in the role of Shadow Marshal Lucas Kellen, a special forces covert operative for the ISA. Our promising, first-hand impressions of the title show a game baked with familiar gameplay mechanics and nuances synonymous with the series, albeit adorned with more visual flare than we’ve seen on current-gen offerings.
The latest Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer footage to trickle out from developer Guerrilla Games is impressive, captured from a simple match on the map “The Park,” in an area lying behind enemy lines near the so-called Visari tribute statue. The new high-resolution footage, captured and lightly compressed, offers a brief glimpse at the game running at 60fps in its native 1080p resolution. Like previously-released screenshots, it looks great, offering detailed foliage, vivid lighting effects and fluid character animations amid a jungle-clad map. Although you can view the video footage above, Guerrilla Games recommends downloading and viewing the trailer locally in order to properly demonstrate the framerate and resolution, which you can download here.
“As you can probably tell from the footage, Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer outputs at a native 1080p, rendering uncapped but always targeting 60 FPS,” said Michiel van der Leeuw, Guerilla Games’ technical director. “We’re very pleased with how well the game runs, and we can’t wait for you to play it come November 15th.”
Killzone: Shadow Fall will be released as a PS4 launch title on Nov. 15.
