Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning has been out in the wild for a little less than two months — the game launched on February 8. It was considered by some to be competition for Bethesda’s massively popular Skyrim, however, in practice the two games were miles apart.
Ryan gave the game a favorable review saying that the lore created by R.A. Salvatore would please fantasy genre fans while the surprisingly deep and engaging combat system would keep everyone else playing.
Today’s video takes us behind the scenes and lets the world designers describe how they brought the various kingdoms of Amalur to colorful life. You’ll also get to see one of the designers actually build a small level as an example. Interestingly, the team behind the world building is a fairly small one. Only three people were responsible for the actual construction of the world and designing the flow of it. That’s an amazingly small team for such a major studio release.
If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, the game is out now for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
