“No man who meets the Hunt returns to this world.”
That’s one way to kick off CD Projekt RED’s latest in-game trailer for the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Shown at the Spike VGX Awards, the latest trailer for what’s likely to be the culmination of the Witcher trilogy, offers yet another brief glimpse at the title’s storyline and showcases the gorgeous capabilities of the newly-dubbed redEngine 3. Players will once again on take on the role of Geralt of Rivia, pummeling their way through a war-torn, multi-region open world that features everything from sprawling, horse-dappled plains and lush forests to expansive cityscapes and bleak swamps. The trailer, teeming with a horde of Sauron-like entities known as “the Hunt,” also reveals snippet of footage of the title’s in-game combat similar to that offered first title’s E3 trailer.
The developers promise an incredibly dynamic world, one apparently 20-percent larger than that offered in Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim, filled with more than 100 hours of gameplay broken up between the main quest line, side missions, and a bevy of other activities. Like other titles in the series, the story will be heavily decision-based, with branching story arcs and alternate endings depending on the player’s motives and choices he or she makes throughout the game’s duration.
Wild Hunt will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2014. Check out our initial impressions of the title for a closer look at the forthcoming gameplay, story, and the overall presentation.
