Ultra High-Definition TVs are pretty cool, but LG thinks the technology is already dated, so it brought a 98-inch 8K television to IFA this year. It probably won’t matter much on a 55 or even 65-inch display, but at almost 100 inches, the difference between 4K and 8K is very noticeable. Even from six inches away it’s hard to spot individual pixels, and the images have such astounding depth that they look almost real. There isn’t a lot of content ready to go for this monstrous display resolution yet, but as UHD movies and TV shows begin to roll out, and 4K displays come down in price, it’s likely we’ll see this even higher quality format emerge onto the market, starting with the highest end displays. For now though, it’s more of an effort to increase the visual quality of 4K content by scaling down even higher resolution video.
