One of the over-the-top promotional stunts that EA and Bioware pulled to get the word out for the recently released Mass Effect 3 was shooting several copies of the game into space and having fans find the games as they came back to Earth.
Essentially, Mass Effect 3 games were attached to high-altitude balloons and released early in the morning on February 23. They launched from San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, Paris, London, and Berlin. HD cameras and GPS tracking systems were attached to the games. Fans could then track the packages on EA’s official website. It went well…mostly.
The above recaps how the event and recovery process went for the excited fans. It shows some of the launches and brief clips of fans tracking the games. Unfortunately there was no footage of the games coming back down from their trip, but it still has more than a few impressive flashes.
Mass Effect 3 is out now for Xbox 360, PC and Playstation 3. Check out our full review of the game here.
