Melancholia is a science fiction film that follows two sisters in a dispute while Earth is threatened by another planet that may collide with it. One of the sisters, Justine played by Kirsten Dunst, is melancholic throughout the film. The other sister (Charlotte Gainsbourg) ends up having to deal with her sister’s depression. Kiefer Sutherland shows up as Gainsbourg’s husband and Alexander Skarsgard is Michael Justine’s fiancé. The film was written and directed by Lars von Trier.
It premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival but no official wide-spread release date has been set.
