Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is the directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria who previously wrote Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Scafaria also wrote Seeking.
The film stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley as two neighbors dealing with the end of the world. The reason that the world is going to end is because a 72-mile asteroid is on a collision course with the planet and all of humanity’s efforts to stop it have failed.
Carell sets out to find his “fish that got away” and Knightley goes with him to see her family one last time. The whole things seems like a bit of a mumblecore romantic comedy.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World will be out in theaters June 22.
