Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap is described as a performance documentary. Interspliced between Ice-T’s exploration of the roots of rap and its place in mainstream culture today, he interviews various artists that give “unique performances.” It’s something of a mix between a documentary and concert film.
The film examines the evolution of the music and explores the art form, while also focusing on individual backgrounds and performances. Legends of the genre such as Doug E. Fresh and KRS-One, as well as global stars like Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg are a few of the contributors to Something from Nothing.
Fans of a rap and hip hop will want keep an eye out for this one. Interviews with names like Mos Def, Nas, and Q-Tip should be enough to pique your interest. Seeing them perform for the documentary is just icing on the cake.
Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap hits theaters on June 15 and we’re sure that it will most likely be on a limited release.
