Hands on with Sony’s hi-res Walkman NWZ-A17 at IFA 2014

With the rise of streaming music services and smartphone storage sizes increasing, the dedicated MP3 player has fallen by the wayside. Sony wants to bring back the Walkman in a big way with the NWZ-A17, a high-resolution audio player with a built-in amplifier and 16 GB of internal storage. Sony already has distribution channels for high-quality audio, so it only made sense to design a player for the consumption of recordings in a huge number of formats, and at resolution rates up to 24 bit/192 kHz. It’s easy to use if you already like to keep your MP3 player and smartphone separate, has a MicroSD card slot for loading and listening to even more music, and it’s compact enough for casual listening or working out.
