With The Bourne Legacy, Tony Gilroy, the narrative architect behind the Bourne series, ponders the impact of Jason Bourne’s breakdown and breakaway from the CIA. After writing the first three movies, Gilroy is now writing and directing the new Bourne movie.
The new story introduces actor Jeremy Renner as another member of the original Treadstone project. The events of the first three Bourne films are affecting the program as a whole, and Renner’s character Aaron Cross finds himself embroiled in the fallout.
Former Bourne actors Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, and Scott Glenn reprise their roles from the previous movies. Fellow newcomers with Renner include Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, and Oscar Isaac.
The Bourne Legacy is slated for an August 3 theatrical release.
