Tomorrow, When the War Began is based off of the John Marsden novel of the same name. The original novel is the beginning of a series of books by Marsden called the Tomorrow series. That’s about all we know about the novels.
What we do know is that this movie looks like Australia’s version of Red Dawn. And honestly, we’re down with it because based on this trailer it doesn’t look too bad. True, it doesn’t feature Swayze but still.
A couple of other differences of note beyond the country is that the kids in this film have no idea who the enemy is after the invasion begins. Red Dawn was clearly an anti-communist film but Tomorrow doesn’t have a clearly defined invader beyond bad guys who take over the town.
Tomorrow, When the War Began makes it way Stateside on February 24.
