Walk through ‘Child of Light’ with its lead programmer

In a world of Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty, it’s refreshing to see something so … unusual with Ubisoft’s Child of Light. It’s rhyming dialogue and water-color painted backgrounds feel like they were ripped from the pages of a storybook. 

The game, unveiled at GDC Europe 2013, is a play on fairy tales, but involving puzzles and turn-based combat. It centers around a young girl named Aurora, as she tries to bring back the sun and moon from an evil queen. She is joined by a Igniculus the firefly, who can find treasure and solve puzzles. Igniculus is also a controllable character, both by Aurora using one of the thumbsticks, and in a co-op mode similar to the character Murfy in Ryaman Legends. Child of Light also allows for players to leave messages warning their friends about things up ahead or leaving hints if playing online. 

The trailer is a short walk-through of the game with lead programmer Brianna Code, who demonstrates the beginning of a quest in a village filled with crows instead of people, a battle and a puzzle. It gives a good sense of the movement of the game as well as a peek at some of the rhyming dialogue. 

Child of Light is slated for release on current, next-gen and Windows platforms sometime in 2014.
