Apple is expected to refresh its entry-level AirPods this fall, and the timing lines up nicely with the company’s iPhone launch event. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the AirPods 5 could debut around the same September 9 event that brings the foldable iPhone and iPhone 18 Pro lineup. It’s about time too, since the current AirPods 4 haven’t been updated since their September 2024 launch. If you have been holding onto an older pair waiting for the right moment to upgrade, this might finally be it.

macOS 26.7 gives more weight to the launch rumors

As MacRumors reported, the AirPods 5 models showed up as references inside the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate, spotted a day after a separate report flagged a wave of unreleased Apple devices hiding in the same update.

The new earbuds carry the internal codenames B868M and B868E, which likely stand for the standard AirPods 5 and the Active Noise Cancellation version. For context, the current AirPods 4 use the codenames B768M and B768E, so the naming pattern checks out.

We still don’t know much about what’s actually changing under the hood, but there’s a decent chance Apple upgrades the H3 chip, which could mean better sound quality and lower latency. MacRumors also noted that the same software update referenced an unreleased Beats Solo Buds model, so there’s clearly more in the pipeline than just AirPods.

What about the camera-equipped AirPods?

A leaked video from a developer build of macOS showed the camera-equipped earbuds working with Apple’s Visual Intelligence feature, but Gurman says that model is still on track for 2027, not this year.

Some additional info about AirPods Pro 4 with cameras, found in macOS 26.7 RC:

If you have long hair that blocks the camera, there will be an error that is titled “Hair Detected” that says “to get the most accurate information about things in your environment, make sure AirPods… https://t.co/hUbWovpsyc

Supply chain and software issues have reportedly pushed back the launch. And when they do arrive, the cameras won’t work like typical cameras. They’re expected to use low-resolution sensors built to scan your surroundings, not snap photos. Either way, it looks like AirPods fans have a busy year or two ahead.

Samsung’s next AI glasses could finally put a screen in front of your eyes
A built-in display may be the missing piece that turns Samsung’s AI glasses into a must-have gadget.
Samsung AI Glasses

Samsung's first AI glasses, launching later this year with Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, skip the screen entirely and stick to camera and voice features. But a new report from TheLEC says Samsung is already working on a follow-up that adds a display.

What kind of screen are we talking about?

EXCLUSIVE: How to ace ‘real’ blood pressure sensing on a watch? Huawei made a big leap and told us the secrets
Blood Pressure Monitoring 1 - Huawei Watch D3 Hands On Early First Impressions

There’s an obvious contradiction at the heart of the Huawei Watch D3. It is thinner, lighter, and more comfortable than its predecessor, yet Huawei has somehow packed even more serious health-monitoring technology into it. Its predecessors, starting with the Watch D, were the first in the industry to measure real blood pressure with a unique micropump system.

The idea is still novel in the industry. Rivals, on the other hand, have shifted to a light-based blood pressure monitoring approach that merely serves as an estimation-based warning system, instead of telling you the real systolic and diastolic values. And with plenty of the usual cautionary messages, of course, and the added hassle of calibration with a real medical-grade cuff. So, when Huawei said the Watch D3 has slimmed down its waistline while getting a sensing upgrade, I was intrigued.

Audio Intelligence is the best Apple Watch upgrade you won’t hear much about
Forget Readiness — this is the Apple Watch upgrade I want to try first
Live Rewind on an Apple Watch

Apple has plenty of shiny numbers to sell the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 with. The new Health Sensing System, the Readiness feature, and more frequent HRV readings are just a couple of things that make these a meaningful upgrade. This is especially true for anyone who treats an Apple Watch primarily as a health and fitness device.

Though the feature that caught my eye has almost nothing to do with workouts. Apple calls it Audio Intelligence, and it essentially gives the Watch another way of understanding what is happening around you. The Series 12 and Ultra 4 can recognize important sounds, automatically identify music, recover the last few seconds of speech you failed to catch, and even create summaries of conversations you want to remember later.
