Samsung’s next AI glasses could finally put a screen in front of your eyes

A built-in display may be the missing piece that turns Samsung’s AI glasses into a must-have gadget.

Samsung’s first AI glasses, launching later this year with Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, skip the screen entirely and stick to camera and voice features. But a new report from TheLEC says Samsung is already working on a follow-up that adds a display.

What kind of screen are we talking about?

Samsung reportedly asked Samsung Display last month to build a micro-display small enough to squeeze into a glasses frame, ideally under 0.2 inches. The company is currently weighing panel options like OLEDoS (micro-OLED) and LEDoS, and evaluating them on price and performance.

Don’t expect a bright, colorful screen like your phone, though. Samsung is leaning toward a simple 4-bit grayscale display, good enough to show text, icons, notifications, and navigation arrows, but not built for photos or videos. Sources say White OLEDoS looks like the most realistic pick, since it’s cheaper and easier to manufacture at scale than a full RGB panel.

Will it show up in one lens or both?

That part is still undecided. Samsung hasn’t picked between a monocular design that shows the screen in just one lens, similar to Meta’s glasses, or a binocular setup that uses both. Either way, the bigger hurdle will be getting a wide field, since Samsung wants the display sitting right on the front of the lens.

Just like this year’s model, the display version is expected to work as a companion to your smartphone rather than replace it, so your phone stays the main device while the glasses handle glances at information.

As for timing, industry sources cited by TheLEC expect these glasses to arrive sometime in the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028, depending on how fast the display tech comes together. Until then, this year’s camera-and-voice-only glasses will have to hold the fort.

Google Fitbit Edge

Google may be preparing to give the Fitbit Charge line the upgrade it's been waiting for. A new leak has revealed a huge amount of information about the rumored Fitbit Edge, an upcoming fitness tracker that appears designed to sit somewhere between the minimalist Fitbit Air and Google’s much more capable Pixel Watch 5.

The device itself isn’t much of a surprise. Google accidentally showed a mysterious screen-equipped fitness tracker in Pixel 11 advertising earlier this year, while subsequent retail imagery seemingly confirmed the Fitbit Edge name and gave us a much better look at its design. Now, a report from Dealabs Magazine may have filled in most of the remaining blanks, including its price and some seriously interesting hardware.
