Undeterred by the super social news website’s child-porn-slathered underbelly, President Obama returned to Reddit in the final hours of election day in an attempt to turn out the vote. Here’s what he had to say to redditors:
I want to thank you all again for the reception you gave me in August for my AMA. Good questions. Definitely not bad.
I’m checking in because polls will start closing in this election in just a few hours, and I need you to vote.
Millions of Americans have stepped up in support of this campaign over the last 19 months, and today we decide what the next four years look like — but only if we show up.
I ask that you go out there and cast your vote, whatever your political persuasion.
You can confirm your polling location here:
If you’ve voted already, don’t stop there — spread the word to your friends, roommates, and neighbors. Think of it as upvoting.
Obama won the Internet, as they say, in late August after he made a surprise appearance on Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) subreddit, an increasingly popular crowd-sourced interview spot for celebrities, politicians, and other people with interesting experiences or careers.
According to Reddit’s internal statistics, the president’s AMA brought in 865,092 unique visits to the site after only an hour, and 5.28 million page views by the following morning – not to mention tens of thousands of comments. Obama’s latest plea to Reddit’s U.S. voters has received significantly less attention, with just 470 comments after about 25 minutes of appearing on the website.
Regardless, Obama needs all the votes he can get. Polls leading up to today’s election have him in a dead heat nationally, and within the margin of error for most swing states – though most election day predictions give him a good chance of winning the election.
We were unable to confirm whether former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Obama’s running mate (for those of you who didn’t already know), has ever heard of Reddit.
