Computer maker Acer has announced two new notebook offers to coincide with the launch of Windows 7 on October 22, including the company’s first multi-touch notebook, the Acer Aspire 5738PG, offering a 15.6-inch 1,366 by 768-pixel display and dedicated ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics with 512 MB of video RAM so users will be able to game and watch movies in style…and put smudges all over the screen as they use fingers to manage media, zoom photos and Web pages, and more.
“Customers will experience an incredible level of flexibility and control in the multi-touch screen interface, as it frees them to interact with their digital world in a way that is familiar yet also new and exciting,” said Acer America’s senior product marketing manager Ray Sawall, in a statement. “Until now, touch notebooks have been limited in capabilities and available only at a substantial price premium. The new Acer Aspire 5738PG changes all this with multi-touch screen capabilities and a price that is affordable for a wide range of customers.”
The Aspire AS5738PG-6306 Multi-Touch Screen Notebook PC will be the first in the new multi-touch line, offering a 15.6-inch 1,355 by 768-pixel display driven by an ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics processor with 512 MB of video RAM. The notebook itself is powered by an 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and sports 4 GB of memory, a 320 GB hard drive, an 8× DVD Super Multi burner, a dedicated numeric keypad, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, HDMI output, four USB ports, and a VGA Web cam. The units will be available on October 22 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed, and will start at $799.99.
Acer has also announced the new seres of Acer Aspire Timeline notebooks, sporting a 1.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and screens from 11.6 to 15.6-inches. At the smallest, the new Timelines weigh just a touch over 3 pounds and are less than one inch thick, but they crank up to about 5.5 pounds. The Timelines sport HDMI output, three USB ports, 4 GB of RAM, a 320 GB tp 500 GB hard drives, gigabit Ethernet, a multi-in-1 media card reader, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking, an option option 8× Super Multi DVD burner, a high-definition webcam, and a multi-gesture trackpad. Pricing on the the new Timelines will run from $599 to $799; they’ll also be available October 22 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed.
