New alliances, revenge, and retribution teased in new Game of Thrones trailer

“We can be heroes, just for one day.”

The cover of the famous Bowie tune, Heroes, spreads its familiar narrative of kings, queens, and, of course, heroes through the intriguing new Game of Thrones trailer, which was released over the weekend. This two-minute peak into GOT‘s 5th season reveals the same themes of intrigue, violence, sex, and conquest that have become pillars of HBO’s popular series.

So, for those of us who haven’t dug into the literary version of the epic, what can we learn from the latest look at the new season?

Sansa Stark appears to be setting out on a quest to avenge her cursed family, with the sometimes villainous, always devious Littlefinger whispering in her ear. Arya, one of Sansa’s few remaining blood relatives, looks ready to begin her own search for bloodlust to restore honor to the Stark name, though we’re only given a glimpse towards the end as Arya raises her slender sword, Needle.

Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, appears to be gaining a pair of allies in Varys the Spider and Tyrion Lanister, as Varys speaks of helping to set a woman on the throne — or is he talking about Sansa?

And where is Bran, with his powerful mind-controlling magic? What about Jon Snow, and the siege of the wall by the White Walkers? So much to ponder, and so much left unrevealed. But then again, that’s the beauty of a great trailer.

We’re definitely ready for April 12 to arrive so we can begin to unravel this season’s riddles. Until then, it’s always fun to hypothesize what we may get a glimpse of next.

To say Squid Game was a hit would be an understatement. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the South Korean survival drama series depicted a deadly game show, with 456 players competing for 45.6 billion won, or around $38 million. The competitors would compete in a series of children's games, with success leading to the next level and failure resulting in death. Released in September 2021, Squid Game is now the most-watched series of all time, English or non-English, with over 2.2 billion hours viewed globally.

The successful series is now being transformed into a reality competition series in Squid Game: The Challenge. 456 players will compete in a series of challenges from the show along with new games for a chance to win $4.56 million. 3 reasons why Squid Game is still the best Netflix show to watch

When it premiered on Netflix in 2021, Squid Game was nothing more than another South Korean, foreign language series. However, it only took a short period of time before the it became Netflix’s most-watched series ever, attracting 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first month. Fourteen Primetime Emmy nominations and six wins later, including one for Lee Jung-jae for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Squid Game has struck a chord for many reasons.

It tells the story of desperate people being recruited for a secret contest. They just need to play a series of children’s games. The last person standing of 456 players wins the prize pot of 45.6 billion won, or about $36 million dollars. But there’s a catch: surviving the game is literal. Losers are killed in the most heinous, twisted ways, often at the hands of other competitors willing to do whatever it takes. Squid Game, however, is about a lot more than terrifying games and mass murder, and it's definitely more substantial than the reality show spin-off, Squid Game: The Challenge, that premiered on Netflix in November. There are many reasons Squid Game is still the best Netflix show to watch.

If you ever had an imaginary friend growing up, there's a good chance that it didn't turn out to be some kind of supernatural force that would come back to haunt you later in life. But that's exactly what's happening in Blumhouse's upcoming horror flick, Imaginary. Unlike killer doll flicks from the past, Chauncey the stuffed bear looks about as non-threatening as it gets. And Chauncey doesn't appear to be as ambulatory as other murderous toys. Instead, Chauncey's sense of menace comes from what he can inspire his victims to do. Sometimes, Chauncey doesn't even have to lift a paw to make them hurt themselves.
