EVGA is currently offering a promotion that provides a free EVGA PowerLink adapter to customers who purchase the company’s GeForce GTX 10 Series graphics cards. This offer is made available to registered cardholders only, and does not include the shipping and handling fees associated with getting the adapter to the customer’s front door.

The PowerLink adapter originally made its debut in June during Computex 2016. It’s an L-shaped adapter designed for cable management permitting a cleaner wiring setup. Not only does this adapter spruce up the innards, it increases the airflow between the front and rear fans, enabling more heat to be pulled away from components. It also supports five different power input configurations backed by an adjustable spacing to match the EVGA card installed inside.

Essentially, one end of the adapter’s “L” form factor connects to the graphics card using built-in PCI-E connectors that can be removed/added and adjusted horizontally using a screwdriver. The other end of the “L” adapter connects to the 6-Pin and/or 8-Pin power connector(s) attached to the system’s power supply.  Thus, instead of the power cords draping down and around the video card, they simply connect at the side, providing a lower profile height.

To get this adapter, customers must own one EVGA GTX 1080, GTX 1070, or GTX 1060 product that’s registered to their account. Only one adapter is allowed per card, with a maximum quantity of four adapters per person and/or household. If customers purchased the GTX 10 Series card though EVGA’s store, then a receipt isn’t required. Otherwise, purchases through other stores will require a valid receipt uploaded to EVGA.

“Once approved, customers must pay a shipping and handling fee as determined by EVGA. No other shipping methods will be available for this promotion,” the company states. “PowerLinks will generally ship within 1 to 3 business days from EVGA once shipping and handling cost is paid by the customer.”

EVGA offers quite a few GeForce GTX 10 Series cards spanning the GTX 1080 (8 cards), the GTX 1070 (9 cards), the GTX 1060 6GB (6 cards), and the GTX 1060 3GB (4 cards). The cheapest GTX 1060 3GB costs $200 whereas the most expensive GTX 1080 card costs $750. The GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 models come with a free copy of Gears of War 4 in addition to the PowerLink adapter.

The GeForce GTX 10 Series cards are based on Nvidia’s latest “Pascal” graphics chip. EVGA customers will need a 500-watt power supply at the minimum, as the GTX 1080 has a total power draw of 245 watts, and the GTX 1070 has a total power draw of 215 watts. The GTX 1060 cards require a 400-watt supply as a minimum power requirement, as they draw only 150 watts.

EVGA indicated that its PowerLink promotion will be available for a limited time, so register that GTX 10 Series card now if you haven’t already. It’s also a good time to purchase one of these cards even though the free accessory will throw on an added cost thanks to EVGA’s shipping and handling fees, whatever they may be.

What to do if your Intel CPU keeps crashing
Pins on Core i9-12900K.

Despite being among the best processors you can buy, some high-end Intel CPUs have faced a wave of instability over the past few months. Intel is investigating the problem, but the company and its motherboard partners have already worked toward some temporary fixes to improve stability on high-end Intel CPUs -- even if it comes at a performance cost.

Before getting into the fixes, keep in mind that they are temporary. Intel will release a statement on the instability soon, likely with more direct guidance on what affected users should do. In addition, the scope of the problem isn't clear -- if you're not experiencing issues, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
