Madonna expresses herself in latest edition of 'Carpool Karaoke'

Madonna Carpool Karaoke
Musical icon Madonna is the latest celebrity to join James Corden for Carpool Karaoke. The outspoken singer brought viewers back to the ‘80s and ’90s by belting out some of her most famous hits and taking us on a ride down memory lane.

As the pair slowly navigated the busy streets of New York, Madonna showed that age has nothing on her. She demonstrated her flexibility by stretching her leg into the air, almost climbing out of the car window, and even turning her butt to the camera to show some twerking action. “That’s the first in-car twerk I’ve ever seen,” commented a bewildered Corden.

They discussed everything from her rebellious kids to generally “square” life once off the stage and out of the spotlight. While she’s Madonna on stage, noted the singer, she’s basically Julie Andrews at home — doesn’t drink, smoke, or party. That said, she is certainly no good girl. Indeed, Madonna noted that she’s been excommunicated three times.

Through the segment, we couldn’t help but notice Madonna’s odd accent that seemed like American with a slight twinge of British whenever she felt it necessary.

While it’s hard to imagine Madonna revealing anything that is a secret — her life has pretty much been an open book through her entire career — the Queen of Pop did manage to disclose something juicy about her relationship with old friend and King of Pop, the late Michael Jackson.

Corden and Madonna sang top tunes like Vogue, Express Yourself, and Don’t Cry for Me Argentina. The real moment came while she was singing Papa Don’t Preach: for a split second, you’re transported back to 1986, and that iconic video where she strolls down the street with that short blonde haircut, or twirls about in a strapless black one-piece, passionately singing about being in trouble deep and keeping her baby.

Since the video was posted early this morning following Wednesday’s initial broadcast on the Late Late Show With James Corden, it has already received more than 200,000 views. It will be interesting to see if Madonna is as relevant as she once was, and is able to garner views in the millions like some of the previous celebrities. That said, a few awkward moments and a general feel of trying too hard puts this segment in the middle of the pack compared to more hilarious or revealing ones like Rod Stewart, Adele, Sia, and Elton John.

Everything you need to know about Cobra Kai season 6
Johnny and Robby Lawrence cheering in a restaurant in a scene from Cobra Kai season 5.

In 2018, Sony Pictures TV teamed up with YouTube Red to produce Cobra Kai, a sequel series to the hit Karate Kid films from the 1980s. Most notably, both of The Karate Kid's surviving primary stars, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, signed on to reprise their respective roles as former rivals Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. The show picked up decades later, as Johnny revived the Cobra Kai dojo to turn his life around and mentor the next generation of martial arts enthusiasts. Daniel took that as a sign to start up his own dojo, and his rivalry with Johnny was born again.

Netflix picked up Cobra Kai after the second season, and the show has become an even bigger hit. Now, Cobra Kai is in production on its sixth and final season, but this series may not be the end of the Miyagi-verse that began in 1984 with The Karate Kid. Here's everything we know about Cobra Kai season 6 to prepare you for the new season.
