Xmas Edition of 'Carpool Karaoke' makes us want an Adele cover of a Mariah hit

James Corden had been preparing for the holidays all year with a special compilation Carpool Karaoke video that shows many of his past guests singing along to Mariah Carey’s hit Christmas song All I Want for Christmas is You. Meanwhile, the multi-octave singer, who was the first Carpool Karaoke guest back in March 2015, joins Corden in the passenger seat for a brand new ride.

While the segment is only slightly longer than the actual song at 3:30, it’s full of festive cheer from singers like Lady Gaga, Elton John, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Selena Gomez, and more. But the best, by far, is Adele, who makes us long for her to record and release a cover of the hit Christmas song.

The segment begins with Corden, in usual order, thanking his guest, Mariah. This time, however, he’s appreciative of her for helping him go Christmas shopping, not just using the carpool lane. When he asks her what she’d like for Christmas, she asks him to sing that overplayed (but, let’s face it, super catchy) tune with her. And so it begins.

Already, the short segment, which aired on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night and was posted to YouTube this morning, has received almost half a million views.

It’s a great pick-me-up video just before the holidays, and serves as a great reminder of how hilarious the segment is, and of some of the great musicians who have participated over the past 12 months. Just this month, both Madonna and Bruno Mars joined to sing some of their top hits, as well as to chat about life (though sadly they don’t appear as part of this video.)

Carpool Karaoke has become so successful that a spinoff series is in the works. The first 16 episodes will debut on the Apple Music streaming platform, and though Corden himself will not be the driver, he has signed on as an executive producer for the project.

Adobe Premiere mobile app is getting licensed music from Universal and Warner Music
On the editing side, there’s a bit of a restriction, as users can only add 60 seconds of a song to their video.

Adobe has just announced that it’s bringing licensed music from Universal Music Group (UMG) and Warner Music Group (WMG) to its Adobe Premiere mobile app. Thanks to the partnership, users will be able to search for and find music from these two giants right in the app.

For social media users, this partnership also solves a huge problem. When people post content with music playing in the background, it’s often flagged for copyright violations on social media platforms. Now, if they pick a soundtrack distributed by either Universal Music Group or Warner Music Group, they can simply add it to their videos and post them freely across social media for personal use, without having to worry about copyright strikes and takedown notices.

Google shuts down massive botnet running on 1.3 million Android TV boxes
Google says the Chinese manufacturer Videostrong Technology deliberately infected its devices and sold access to cybercriminals.
Videostrong GoogleTV box

Malware infecting Android devices isn't new, but Google's recent report is grim and concerning. The search giant has taken down a massive botnet that turned over 1.3 million Android TV set-top boxes into tools for cybercriminals. Unlike the usual attacks, where users end up downloading some shady apps from the internet, the malware here was planted inside the devices by the manufacturer itself.

According to the Google Threat Intelligence Group, the company behind it is China-based Videostrong Technology. Google has now cut ties with the manufacturer and banned it from building or supplying software for certified Android devices.

Audio-Technica’s new wireless StreamSet headset promises studio sound without the cables
Finally, a wireless headset that takes your voice seriously.
Audio technica new headset.

I've lost count of wireless headsets that sound great until the microphone switches on. That is exactly why a cord-free streaming headset from a studio-audio brand earns my attention (with a pinch of skepticism). Audio-Technica wants to change my mind, and I am all up for it.

The company has announced the "ATH-M50xSTS-WL," its first wireless headset in the StreamSet line. What's unique, however, is how the brand has combined the studio sound of its ATH-M50x monitor headphones with microphone tech from its 20 Series studio mics (via Audio-Technica).
