For some, the ads in the Super Bowl are more exciting than the game itself, and for action movie lovers, this year’s show did not disappoint. We’ve seen pictures of Chris Evans as Captain America, but now we have a full teaser trailer. The footage gives us our first moving look at Marvel’s Captain America in action. A good portion (or most) of the film will take place in the World War II era. Steve Rogers is an anemic looking man who is considered unfit for duty but wants to serve. After some persuasion he signs up for a top-secret super soldier program headed by Col. Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones). You can probably guess what happens after that.

The trailer also gives us our first glimpse at Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. You can see him pulling off a face mask midway through the teaser. Captain America: The First Avenger is directed by Joe Johnston, who has a spotty directing record, but has made some classics. He’s responsible fro Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, October Sky, Jurassic Park III, Hidalgo, and The Wolfman. Being that he seems to have a good movie / bad movie trend and The Wolfman was certainly not a good movie, hopefully luck will bless Captain America. The film opens on July 22.

What do you think of the new trailer?

Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan as Colin and Penelope looking at each other in Bridgerton.

Netflix has generally weathered the aftermath of the 2023 Hollywood strikes better than its streaming rivals. However, Netflix's lineup in May looks significantly weaker than in the recent past. There's a distinct lack of blockbuster movies from other studios. Even Netflix's original series are slowing down this month. The most significant arrival is Bridgerton season 3, and Netflix is splitting that season into two parts, making fans wait until June to get some closure.

There are other highlights, including Jerry Seinfeld's Unfrosted, Blood of Zeus, and the complete run of the animated spy comedy Archer. But compared to the shows and movies that Netflix had earlier in 2024, it's really lackluster.
