HP TouchPad gets its Movie Store

HP’s webOS-based TouchPad tablet has only been on the market for a few weeks, but as promised HP is continuing to improve the device’s entertainment options. A Kindle app for the TouchPad appeared this week (at least for U.S. users), and HP has now released a Movie Store app for the TouchPad that enables owners to tap into a streaming movie store, powered by RoxioNow.

The app replaces a stand-in Movie Store app that shipped with the device; users can open the App Catalog to receive the new Movie Store for free. As with the TouchPad’s Kindle App, access appears limited to U.S. customers.

The service offers movie rentals starting at $2.99 for a 24-hour rental, with outright purchases starting at $9.95; television shows are available for $1.99 per episode.

Offering a dedicated Movie Store on the TouchPad should help the tablet’s entertainment appeal—particularly for folks who already have Roxio-powered devices in their personal ecosystems, such as Internet-capable TVs or set-top boxes from Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Sony, or Vizio.
