[REDACTED] - Announce Trailer

Striking Distance Studios announced its follow-up to the action horror game The Callisto Protocol at Gamescom 2024, and it’s a roguelike dungeon crawler set in the same universe.

Redacted, stylized as [REDACTED], which is set to release on October 31 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, follows a security guard who’s trying to escape Black Iron Prison, the setting from the first game, by any means necessary. As per the roguelike formula, you’ll die over and over again trying to get out, but along your journey to the last escape pod, you’ll collect weapons, suits, skills, and what are called experiments.

The developers have added a few twists. For one, you won’t just be fighting against mutated inmates and alien monsters. There are other people trying to get to the escape pod that you’ll have to contend with as well. The trailer shows off three other blue-collar, forgotten workers in the prison, including a lunch lady and a custodian. There’s yet another foe you’ll have to fight: your own corpse. When you die during a run, your corpse, complete with all your collected gear and upgrades, will try and attack you. Roguelikes typically have some in-story reason why you get to come back to life repeatedly, and this is certainly a way to do it.

Redacted which is apparently the real name and not a placeholder title, looks very different from The Callisto Protocol. While that first game was photorealistic and dark, Redacted is bright and colorful, with bold outlines, a comic book-inspired aesthetic, and superfast gameplay.

The Callisto Protocol was the first game from Striking Distance Studios, a Krafton developer led by Glen Schofield, and it was meant to be a spiritual successor to Schofield’s most famous game, Dead Space. It shipped in December 2022, although according to some recent Schofield comments, it could’ve used at least three more months to cook. He has since left the studio, although the team has been working on another AAA project alongside Redacted.

Modern Warfare 4 brings Call of Duty back to its glory days. I hope the streak lives.
Infinity Ward’s latest campaign goes back to Call of Duty’s roots and recaptures what made me a fan more than a decade ago.

The Call of Duty franchise has held a special place in my heart ever since I played my first Black Ops game back in 2010. That game's campaign was something else, with twists and turns that culminated in a mind-blowing finale. We can all admit that compared to those older campaigns, the recent CODs have been lackluster at best, and a complete and utter disappointment at worst. The reboot of Modern Warfare did give me some hope, as the first two installments were actually quite good, but the third game left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn’t exactly expecting much from Modern Warfare 4.

After recently finishing the campaign, I can say that this installment is nothing like the recent releases and instead feels closer to the franchise’s roots. For the first time in a long while, the campaign comes across as well-crafted rather than rushed to hit a release date. It arrives three years after MW3, and you can see exactly where all that time went. It seems the studio finally made listening to player feedback a priority.

The free-to-play spin-off launches October 29 with open-world exploration, mobile-focused combat, and a building system.

It’s turning into a pretty good time to be a Monster Hunter fan who plays on a phone. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will launch on Android and iOS on October 29, giving the series a new mobile-first game just as Monster Hunter Rise is also preparing to make the jump to smartphones through Netflix.

Outlanders is being developed by Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studio Group under license and supervision from Capcom. Unlike Rise, which appears to be the full console and PC game adapted for mobile, Outlanders is a free-to-play survival hunting game made specifically for phones.
