Skype for PocketPC 2.0 Available

Skype has taken the wraps off Skype for PocketPC 2.0, enabling Skype users to make voice calls anywhere they can connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi and/or 3G mobile networks. The software is available as a free download, and supports a wide range of PocketPC devices, including HP iPAQ hw6900 series Mobile Messenger (plus hx2400, hx2700, rx3700 and hx4700 series devices); the Dell X3i, X30, X50, X50v, x51 and x51v models; and Fujitsu Siemens Computers Pocket LOOX N520, 718 and 720 models.

“Skype for Pocket PC 2.0 delivers greater flexibility for callers who want to make free calls or chat without the need for a desktop PC,” said Niklas Zennstrom, Skype CEO and co-founder. “Together with our efforts to incorporate Skype into mobile phones, this next generation version of Skype for Pocket PC devices extends the reach of our popular software to an even broader market segment.”

Skype for Pocket PC will also be preloaded on a number of devices including Asus MyPal A636, BenQ P50, E-TEN M600, Dopod 700, i-mate PDA2, PDA2K, JASJAR and Qtek 9000 and 9090. Key features of Skype for PocketPC include the ability to place Skype-to-Skype and Skype-to-SkypeOut calls, instant messages, setting “presence,” synchronization of contact lists with a desktop or notebook computer, and voicemail. The software requires Windows Mobile 5.0 or 2003 for Pocket PC and a PocketPC device with at least a 312MHz processor and wireless Internet connection over Wi-Fi or 3G mobile networks.

Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
