Create Your Own Games With XNA Game Studio

XNA Game Studio Express is a set of free tools that let users create their own Xbox 360 games, using their regular Windows XP based system. There is a small catch though, you must join a"creators club" for an annual subscription fee of $99 that let you build, test and then share their games on the Xbox 360 or Windows XP systems.   As part of the announcement,Microsoft told the press that users of Autodesk will be able to incorporate their content into the XNA Game Studio Express platform using Autodesk’s FBX file exchange format.   The XNA GameStudio Express beta will be available August 30th as a free download on Windows XP with the final release scheduled to be available sometime during the holiday season.   “XNA Game StudioExpress will ignite innovation and accelerate prototyping, forever changing the way games are developed,” Satchell said. “By unlocking retail Xbox 360 consoles for community-createdgames, we are ushering in a new era of cross-platform games based on the XNA platform. We are looking forward to the day when all the resulting talent-sharing and creativity transforms into athriving community of user-created games on Xbox 360.”   Among those pledging support for creation include University of Southern California, Georgia Tech College of Computing and SouthernMethodist University Guildhall among others. In total Microsoft says more than 10 colleges will be using these new tools. In addition, Garage Games, technology provider and developer of one of themost successful Xbox Live Arcade titles, “Marble Blast Ultra,” has migrated both its Torque Shader Engine and new Torque Game Builder 2-D visual game designer over to the XNA Game StudioExpress platform.

Amazon’s Fallout series is crossing over with two Fallout games
Ella Purnell in Fallout.

A TV show based on the Fallout series of video games debuted on Amazon Prime this week, and now Fallout Shelter and Fallout 76 are both getting new content themed around the show.

Free-to-play vault management game Fallout Shelter will get a new eight-mission questline. Playing through this quest will net players six new vault dwellers, including Ella Purnell's Lucy, Aaron Moten's Maximus, and Walton Goggins' The Ghoul. Bethesda is also adding other items themed around the series to the game, including a pre-war Cowboy outfit, The Ghoul's revolver, a wedding dress, and a Vault 33 jumpsuit. That last item will be available for free to anyone who logs into the game between today and May 7.

This $15 Steam game is a must-buy for Zelda fans
A ship dodges bullets in Minishoot' Adventures.

The past year was the Legend of Zelda series' moment to shine thanks to the excellent Tears of the Kingdom. Unfortunately, there's something bittersweet about that: It means we're likely not getting another Zelda game for a long time. While Switch ports of some classic 3D games have been long-rumored for Switch and we could always get a surprise remake à la Link's Awakening, Link isn't currently scheduled to set off on his next journey anytime soon.

Thankfully, there's a great new game available on Steam that can help fill the void: Minishoot' Adventures. The $15 indie title is an ode to classic, top-down Zelda games -- but there's a twist. It's also a twin-stick shooter that has players piloting a tiny ship, blasting enemies in every direction, and weaving around chaotic bullet hell encounters.
