Dell Intros New LCD TVs, Monitor

At the Digital Life event this week in New York City, Dell Computer took the opportunity to showcase several new products, including two new LCD televisions and an LCD flat-panel computer monitor, aiming to maintain and extend its forward position in the LCD market.

First up, Dell introduced its new W3207C and W3707 32- and 37-inch high-definition LCD televisions. Both units feature over-the-air high-definition television tuners and 1,366 by 768 WXGA resolutions. The 32-inch W3207C offers a 1,200:1 contrast ration, 8 ms response tune, and a 30-watt amp pushing integrated stereo speakers, all for a starting price of $1,199. Moving up, the W3707C offers detachable 30-watt speakers with SRS TruSurround XT, picture-in-picture capability for dual-source viewing, dual HDMI inputs, a VGA connector for hooking up to PCs, as well as composite, component, and s-video input for use with DVRs, DVD players, and other peripherals. The W3707C starts at $1,699. Neither screen offers native 1080p resolution, but the price points aren’t half bad for al all-around LCD display. Both units are available immediately.

Dell also rolled out its new E207WFP 20.1-inch widescreen flat-panel monitor, sporting a 1,680 by 1,050 native resolution, a DVI interface with HDCP, and a tilt stand which can be removed for wall-mounting the display. The E207WFP is available immediately at prices starting at $289.

Niche smartphone company Nothing has two new sets of wireless earbuds that go after Apple's AirPods Pro in more ways than one. That's a full-frontal assault on the three major voice assistants that currently dominate on smartphones: Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa. These assistants are very capable when it comes to simple voice commands like pausing your music or asking about the weather, but they haven't kept pace with Open AI's ChatGPT, which offers more sophisticated tasks and turn-based conversations.

New $129 Moto Buds+ tap Bose for boom and Dolby for head tracking

Three new phones under the Edge 50 branding weren't enough for Motorola this week. The venerable manufacturer also dropped a pair of earbuds to go along with the new Android fare.

The main contenders for North America will be the Moto Buds+, which are available now for $129 in the U.S., and $179 in Canada. They look as you'd expect wireless earbuds to look; that's worth mentioning because Moto had some wood-clad phones in its drop this week. They're sleek and stylish and apparently available here only in Forest Gray, though press images show other colors, too. (More's the pity -- those other colors look slick.)
