Audio and video component manufacturer Onkyo has introduced its new TX-SR804 home theater receiver, intended to serve as the centerpiece of discerning home theater installations. The TX-SR804 boasts THX Select2 Certified 7.1 channel audio, with each channel getting 105 watts of amplification. The TX-SR804 also sports XM Satellite Radio compatibility, bi-directional RS-232 for integration with home automation systems, and let’s not forget the 1080p repeater switching, with the capability to up-convert all video sources to HDMI for one-cable hookups of most display and source equipment. Video inputs include HDMI, component, S-Video, and composite; other ports include Ethernet and analog and digital audio inputs—and in addition to THX audio, users will be able toe take advantage of DTS and Dolby features. Onkyo has also debuted two new DVD players, the DV-SP504 and the DV-CP704 six-disc changer. Both offer HDMI output and offer to upscale standard DVD video to 720p or 1080i resolutions, and support DVd-Video, audio CDs, and MP3/WMA music CDs, with ID3 tag support. The DV-SP504 sports top-notch audio D/A converters and video processing, and is priced at $449; the six-disc DV-CP704 carries a suggested price of $229.
