Samsung Touts New Mobile Memory

You know how it is with chips and processors: smaller and cooler is always better, particularly for use in portable devices.

Following that line of thought, tech manufacturer Samsung has announced it was developed the industry’s first 1 GB mobile DRAM chip using 80nm process technology. Samsung says the new chip is 20 percent thinner and uses 30 percent less power than current 1 GB solutions for mobile devices (which are two stacked 512 MB modules).

Samsumg says it plans to begin mass-producing the nw modules in the second quarter of 2007, and imagines the chip’s new form factor will encourage makers of mobile phones, digital cameras, and media players to pack 1.5 and 2 GB of memory into their devices. The module can also be combined with non-volatile Flash memory in multi-chip package-on-package designs.

If you need a bigger screen, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is another solid budget option. It is 10.5 inches and runs a much better 1920 x 1200 resolution, which also makes it a better option for watching content. It does have a much smaller capacity at 32GB, although you can always expand it with a MicroSD, so it's not a dealbreaker.
