Dell Offers LoJack for Laptops

Computer maker Dell has announced it is teaming with Absolute Software to offer CompuTrace LoJack for Laptops as a theft recovery service available with the purchase of CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service with selected Dell Inspiron notebook computers with one to our year warranties, or as a standalone product on the Dell Software and Peripherals Site. Price for the service will range from $99 to $139.

“Losing a computer is costly, even potentially devastating, when you consider the value of the data and personal information stored on today’s notebooks,” said Rocky Mountain, VP of Dell’s U.S. Consumer business. “Combining accidental damage protection with theft recovery service is a huge win for consumers who want increased security.”

Once installed, LoJack for Laptops works by contacting Absolute Software’s monitoring center via the Internet. In the event a system is lost or stolen, the owner just contact’s Absolute Software’s recovery team. The next time the computer “checks in” via the Internet, the team starts monitoring it every 15 minutes, and worth with law enforcement to obtain tracking information and other information useful for obtaining search warrants, and, eventually, leading police to recover and return the computer. Absolute Software promises that if your computer isn’t recovered within 30 days, they’ll refund the price of your software—which may be small comfort compared to the cost of replacing a notebook, or the damage from lost data and files. Someone needs to give Dell a lesson in marketing, because it hid the most impressive part of the new XPS 13. The upcoming laptop is the first to feature a Tandem OLED display, as Dell confirmed to The Verge.

Tandem OLED is all the rage right now, with Apple introducing the display tech first with the iPad Pro M4. The concept behind Tandem OLED is simple. In order to increase the historically low brightness of OLED, you stack multiple OLED panels on top of each other. We haven't heard of any other shipping device using this display tech, outside of the upcoming XPS 13.

Why you should buy the Dell Inspiron 15
When you want to evaluate cheap laptops, you should start with the stat line (RAM, storage, etc.) to see if it is stomacheable and then progress onto the finer details that make that laptop special. And, here, the base stat line is quite incredible for a work, study, or browser computer. It comes with a 12th Gen Intel Core i3 processor, Intel graphics, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage. You even get a 15.6 inch, 1080p at 120Hz anti-glare backlit screen. While it isn't a touchscreen, comparing this mentally to tablets of a similar cost in terms of what you would expect is a useful mental exercise.
